Happy Hanukkah with Homemade Sufganiyot

Happy Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends and anyone who celebrates.  With the festival of lights officially underway, it's a great time to indulge in oil rich foods, which often times translates to fried goodies.  One of these happens to be sufganiyot (or jelly donuts) that are traditionally eaten during this holiday.

While some people may get them at their local supermarket or even Dunkin Donuts, it's so much more special to make them from scratch, and my mom has done that here.  Reminding us so much of the "fanky" that my grandmother used to make, my mom was inspired to recreate these at home, serving them fresh from the pot.  I'm proud to say she got my dad's seal of approval where he said they tasted "exactly like Nadika used to make them." Sold and sold...

Here is the recipe she used, courtesy of Bon Appetit

How are you planning to celebrate Hanukkah?

  1. Yes and yes... they were "sold" (best the day they were made)

  2. True, but they were still good. It's definitely worth making them.
