Win A First Glimpse of Astoria's New 5 Napkin Burger

GIVEAWAY WINNERS: Eileen, AGirl and Hailey you are our lucky winners and get to attend tomorrow's event with 2 guests.

5 Napkin was absolutely thrilled with everyone's enthusiastic responses and decided to generously grant everyone an entry to tomorrow's party with 1 guest.  Please contact me asap at critic@foodistanyc.com with your full name and your guest(s) names and we'll get you on the list.  I'll also reveal full details about the party via email.

I couldn't believe it when I found out that Astoria is getting its own fix of Manhattan's burger wonder, 5 Napkin Burger.  Not only is this place considered a must in hard-core burger circles, it was featured on Martha Stewart's hamburger show last year. And I don't have to tell you how I feel about her!

The new 5 Napkin burger will reside in the old Cup Diner space (more recently known as Bizaare Avenue Cafe that we'd all like to forget).  Its spacious new digs will make this the largest 5 Napkin location to date, and as it's located around the corner from Studio Square Beer Garden, it might prove to be a serious competitor.

It's scheduled to open next week on Wednesday, June 16th.

But now let's have some fun! Do you want a chance to preview this hot new burger joint before everyone else does?

I'm giving 3 lucky winners (and 2 of their friends) the chance to attend 5 Napkin's launch party before it officially opens.  Here's what you can expect:

Free cocktails & hors d'oeuvres
Prime access to a hot new restaurant
Great networking opportunity with fellow Astorians and foodie movers & shakers

How to Enter:
Comment on this post about why you and 2 friends should attend this party between now and Sunday, June 13th. I'll choose 3 winners at random and will contact you with complete party details.

Good luck and I hope to see you at 5 Napkin Burger.

  1. Pick me! I love Astoria, and wish I could try each restaurant in our awesome neighborhood at least once - but I can't stop going back to my faves (il bambino, bareburger, seva). Help me branch out and visit this new resto! Thanks!

  2. I'd like to attend because the 5 Napkin S'mores shake is key in the courtship between my boyfriend and me. Plus, he lives right down the street from the new Astoria location!

  3. I, too, couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the sign. A 5 Napkin Burger on 34th Ave - just a stones throw away from one of my favorite local watering holes, Sunswick. It was like waking up Christmas morning to find snow on the ground.

Having tasted the food at the Manhattan offshoot of this Burger Wonderland, I would love the opportunity to say that Queens, in fact, does it best. Not only that, but the combination of great eats and networking with locals is an one that's too good to miss. Can't wait for the opening!

  4. Pick me because I love checking out new places and there is nothing better than a delicious gourmet burger! (And food always tastes better when it is on the house, right?) :-)

  5. I should win because if I was on death row, and had to choose my last meal it would be a cheeseburger- as a purist it would be a perfect 1/2 to 3/4 lb, prime meat burger, medium, topped with a thick slice of yellow American, drizzled with Heinz and a non-overwhelming, lightly toasted bun....and a large Coke or chocolate milk shake....I want it. I live for cheeseburgers.

  6. I would love to go... and right now being a starving grad student, could really use something free!

I've never had the opportunity to try 5 Napkin Burger before, but have been loving the addition of Bareburger to the neighborhood and always appreciate a gourmet burger. I'm sure my foodie friends would be equally eager!

  7. I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity familiarize myself with Astoria a lot over the past few months and it has quickly turned into one my favorite places in the city. There is so much culture and things to do. I've got my eyes set on this 5 Napkin Burger as soon as it opens!

  8. I'd like to attend because I'd love to get a chance to chat up the super fabulous Foodista...oh and try a burger, too ;)

  9. I'd LOVE to go! I check your site all the time for the top places to eat. Funny story, my mother is coming into town this week and we're deciding on where to go. I hopped on Yelp and came across ...5 Napkin Burger. I thought hmm this would be a good place. Then I decided to check out your site for a brunch spot we could also check out. I log on and what do i see? A post on 5 Napkin Burger. It must be a sign! : )
    It's calling my name!

  10. I've called Astoria home since I moved in NY in '07 and I've done all I can to both take advantage of this city and to share my knowledge with others. From "founding" my Astoria Brunch Club (that checks out new places weekly) to swimming in the Astoria Park pool, I truly love this town. Also, I am a voracious reader of any and all Astoria blogs and, because of one, even joined my first CSA this year! I would love to try out 5 Napkin Burger first so I have the opportunity to pay it forward and share info about my experience with others. I have yet to try a 5 Napkin Burger and I hear they're amazing. My boyfriend is also thinking about starting a burger blog so this would really be a great start!

  11. Because my friends and I are tired of travelling to Manhattan for a good burger. Waiting 45 minutes on line for Shake Shack isn't always worth it. Queens is stepping it up and we want to be there when it does.

  12. I hope it's me! I love Astoria, have been hoping something good would replace that space (RIP, Cup Diner), AND love the original 5 Napkin in Hell's Kitchen! AND when I went, I didn't get to go with my fiance, who would LOVE it, so this would be the perfect chance to bring him!

I would like to attend because my girlfriend and I have lived happily in Astoria for over 2 years and each week we choose a new restaurant to try in Astoria. This site is our go to site for what's new, good, overloocked, underrated, etc., in Astoria. We love showing our "city" friends what they're missing in Astoria and a new 5 Napkin Burger will just hammer it home what a great place for food Astoria is!

  14. I'd like to go because my girlfriend who is mostly a vegetarian will only eat REALLY good, quality burgers. I want to buy her a burger!

  15. Hi Foodista! I'm a huge fan of Astoria restaurants--from Indian at Seva, to Greek at Kyclades, to Venezualan at Arepas Cafe--but burgers hold a special place in my heart. I already love the NYC branch of 5 Napkin, and can't wait to welcome this great spot to our hood. Thanks!

  16. I am really excited about 5 Napkin Burger coming to my backyard! The 9th Ave location is allergen/gluten-free aware and have been accommodating when I have dined their. The burgers and fries are delicious and they offer gluten-free beer which is a major plus in my book. Welcome to the 'hood 5 Napkin Burger. Good luck!

  17. i think i should win -- because plainly my friends and I are burger enthusiasts to say the least. I frequent the 5 Napkin in Hells Kitchen and think that it's AWESOME that it's coming to my hood. I love Astoria and I love burgers. Pick me, MOOO.

  18. Dear Foodista, please pick me to attend the event! I obsess over trying the newest and best Astoria restaurants (your blog is often my guide!), and I love sharing what I discover with my friends in both Queens and BK/Manhattan. I haven't had a chance to try 5 Napkin yet, but I have done some burger touring (including Luger's, Donovan's, and our own Bareburger and Petey's), and I am very interested in how this mini-chain compares! Rest assured that if I attend and like the food as much as I think I will, I will spread the 5 Napkin gospel far and wide! Not to mention the fact that I have always wanted to meet you in person. :) Thanks very much for opening up this opportunity to your readers!

YES!! I read that 5 Napkins was opening in Astoria and I immediately sent it to my boyfriend! I always tell him that he has one of the best burgers but Im still looking for one that's comparable! I would love to go to the opening party and see if 5 Napkins burger passes the test!

  20. Please pick me! I've lived in Astoria for over four years and love this neighborhood, one of my favorite things to do is explore all the amazing places to eat and would love to get to try 5 Napkin burger!

  21. I'm going to India for 2 and a half weeks, and will not be eating one ounce of meat while I'm there. I think a 5 Napkin Burger would satisfy my meat craving until I return to the US! Also, that location has had a terrible track record with Bizarre and the Diner before that closing, and I'd like to help change its luck!

  22. My boyfriend and I love burgers and are always up for some free stuff! Pick me!

  23. I need to win this 5 Napkin Burger night! I have been doing P90x, and focusing on getting in shape. However I injured my ankle on Friday and am on the DL for a while. Now all I have is food!! Please help me fill my void with 5 NAPKIN BURGER!!!
