It's been a while since I've sat down to 5 Napkin's awesome happy hour, and last week Meg and I popped in for a visit. We were seeing some films over at MOMI and decided to take a quick break in between for some nourishment. It was perfect timing too, as 5 Napkin's happy hour was still going on, which I love.
We arrived with a half hour to spare and ordered right away. Consequently, we found out there are some changes to the happy hour deal, as they no longer offer hand rolls on the menu. We ordered them anyway for $4 a pop, which is still a good deal, considering their hefty size.
New Happy Hour Menu:
The items that are staying put on 5 Napkin's happy hour menu are the $2 sliders, which can't be beat. I particularly love the veggie slider, pictured above, which is hearty and really flavorful for an all veggie patty. Two other varieties still on this menu are their classic chuck slider and a slightly revamped turkey mushroom slider.
Beer:
In terms of the drinks, they're still offering $4 drafts, including the SingleCut 19-33 Lagrrr, which we both ordered. It was bitter and clean tasting, and not too full bodied, which was perfect since we were also having sliders. It comes highly recommended.
If you're wondering about the timing of all this goodness, it's remained unchanged and applies each day of the week from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. as well as from 10:00 p.m. to close.

Given the funny date we're graced with today, I thought it was pretty clever of 5 Napkin Burger to roll out with this impromptu deal. Here are the deets - this is definitely a fun, last minute thing to do tonight, so I hope you get to take advantage of it, whether you're in Astoria or the city.
In honor of today's date, 11/11/11, 5 Napkin Burger offers a special 11% discount off the entire bill during the 11th hour (as in 11 p.m. tonight). I love that this deal is relevant in all 5 Napkin Burger NY locations including Astoria, Hell's Kitchen and the Upper East Side.

There's been a lot of buzz in the nabe about Just Burgers, which looks just about well done and probably in a couple of weeks, ready to open. Occupying the space at the base of The Acropolis building on the corner of 34th Street and Ditmars, the location couldn't be better for residents and visitors alike.Although I'm not really sure when this place will debut its burger offering (and maybe unlike its name suggests, some other goodies too), I wanted to take your pulse on this matter and see if you know any details. Chime in with your knowledge...people want to know.
In the meantime, if you're looking for a solid burger experience in the nabe, here are a couple of great options you can hit:
Fatty's Cafe - I love their turkey burger with jalapeno mayo, peppers and onions. 25-01 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria NY 11105. 718.267.7017
Sparrow - Not only do they use grass fed beef, the thick-cut bacon and herbed fries, which you can add on are an extra bonus. 24-01 29th Street, Astoria NY 11102. 718.606.2260
BareBurger - You can't go wrong with any burger here, but my personal favorites include the Big Blue Bacon Mushroom Onion Burger and the Lamb BareBurger. 33-21 31st Avenue, Astoria NY 11106. 718.777.70115 Napkin Burger - Even though there's about 10 burger options to choose from, I highly recommend going with the classic, The Original 5 Napkin Burger with caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and 5 Napkin's special rosemary aioli. 35-01 36th Street, Astoria NY 11106. 718.433.2727
