Porkfest this Weekend at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden

One of my very favorite neighborhood food events is back this year, which is
Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden's Pork Fest.  Taking place around this time of year, the staff at the Beer Garden create an entire menu, consisting of delicious pork delicacies that originate from the Czech Republic and Slovakia (my mother country!)

I promise you'll fulfill your heart's desire with amazing pork specialties such as pork and dumplings, pork goulash, fried pork cutlet and more!

This tasty pig feast takes place all weekend, starting this Friday at 5 p.m. and goes til Sunday evening at 10 p.m.

The Czech and Slovak Festival is Coming this Weekend

For those of you who know me personally, you can vouch for how proud I am of my Slovak heritage.  Although I've lived here most of my life, I stay very true to my roots and visit my relatives in my Mother country at least once a year.

A big part of my culture is of course the food, and that's why I love frequenting the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden.  Although this place has changed a lot since I first started living in Astoria, it's still wonderful and nostalgic to me.  It's exciting to me when they throw their annual Czech & Slovak festival, but unfortunately this year, I won't be in town to enjoy it.  But hopefully you will be, and I can live vicariously through you guys.  Here are the deets:

Annual Czech & Slovak Festival at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden
Saturday, May 25th - Sunday, May 26th from 12:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Enjoy authentic Czech & Slovak food, drink and festive folk music.  Wear comfy shoes and get ready to boogie (just like my cousin, Camryn pictured above).

Unlimited Sunday Brunch at The Beer Garden

Always on the hunt for a good brunch deal, I noticed a really sweet and unexpected brunch special at
The Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden
that I wanted to share.  Extremely popular in the warm spring and summer months, "The Beer Garden" as many of us still call it, chills out a bit during the wintertime when their outdoor garden isn't exactly the draw.  For this reason, I see they're working on a couple of interesting specials (including drinks and food deals during sporting events) but also this fabulous all-you-can-eat brunch option on Sundays.  Here goes...

Every Sunday from noon - 2 p.m. enjoy an all-you-can eat breakfast buffet for just $10.95.  What's even better is that this comes with your choice of 2 mimosas or 2 bloody Marys.  How great is that?!

Note that this special is very much seasonal, so when spring and summer arrive, expect that it may not stay put.  But in the meantime, go ahead and enjoy it!

More Oktoberfest Fun at Studio Square

As I told you my friends, Oktoberfest is in full swing - not only overseas (my Oktoberfest Munich experience to come soon), but also in our neck of the woods too.  I mentioned the rich goings-on at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, but wanted to give you a heads-up that Studio Square has some tricks up their sleeve as well.

Here's what you can expect this weekend:
Saturday, October 1st - Sunday, October 2nd from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Have all the beer tastings you fancy and a pretty delicious-sounding menu of Bavarian specialties such as:

Hachen-Schnitzel – Bier-battered and fried thin breast of chicken

Kolbase – Grilled spiced sausage
Wursts – braised and grilled
Bauernwurst, bratwurst, knackwurst, weisswurst
Smoked pork loin
Black forest ham, rindfleisch cervelat
Bavarian Pretzels, baurenbrot
Farmer’s Bread

Kaiser Rolls

Apfelstrudel – Apple
Kirschstrudel – Cherry
Marillenstrudel - Apricot

Tickets are $65/person and you can get them here.  From what I can tell and also from experiencing the real thing, this sounds like a pretty authentic offering.  And like they do in Germany...don't forget to wear your lederhosen and/or dirndel.

Oktoberfest is Here!

Given that I just came from Munich for a very appropriately timed business trip, I was also able to experience the annual Oktoberfest celebration they hold.  I wish I had one word to describe the whole experience, which was so graciously shared with us by our German colleagues, Tanja and Kathrein. Not only did these ladies show us the ropes, but they partied with us like there was no tomorrow.  Danke schon!

While I'll give you more color around my Munich Oktoberfest experience later, I first want to tell you about the celebration that's happening locally in Astoria.  Taking place as it does each year at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, it'll be a two week celebration with beer, food, music and the most important thing that makes this event so wonderful - the crowd.  Here are more details around this event - so start gathering up the troops and don't be afraid to wear your dirndl.

Wild Wing Wednesday at Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden

Here's something fun to do on this snowy Wednesday...

Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden is offering a fun wing promotion today. Wings are just 50 cents and for some added fun, if you say "Wild Wing Wednesday" 3 times fast after drinking 3 beers, you'll get 10 wings free.  An offer like that should certainly get some of you out there and enjoying...

If you're not a huge wing fan, I personally recommend their Slovak and Czech specialties such as giant potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, spaetzle with sauerkraut or sheep's milk cheese, classic beef goulash served with soft bread dumplings to soak up all that sauce (pictured above), and much more.
