Los Amigos - A Happy Dance for Tastebuds

Los Amigos - 22-73 31st Street, Astoria, NY 11105

N/W Train to Ditmars Blvd (last stop)

In terms of atmosphere, Los Amigos lacks charm and luster. Its décor is oddly eclectic and ranges from a hanging deer’s head to a large jukebox. But all quirkiness aside, Los Amigos serves delicious and hearty Mexican food. Their starter chips are crunchy but not too greasy and the salsa has a slight kick. I really enjoyed their chicken quesadillas which were filled with boiled, pulled chicken (again, not greasy) and topped with shredded cheese and mole sauce. But before I could even finish these, our waitress came back carrying the main courses. My chorizo burrito was humongous and rested on a large island of rice and beans--the colors were so vibrant that the dish resembled a festive Mexican flag. I was a bit intimidated to dig in but once I did, I couldn’t stop and finished my plate in minutes. The flavor of the chorizo was slightly spicy but did not take away from the other tastes in the burrito. I have to say that the service here was incredible. Our waitress was polite, always smiling and super quick. The prices at Los Amigos are extremely cheap and you can walk out with a substantial food belly for under $15 per person.
