Philippu - Coming Soon!

On my way to Vue Cafe, I spotted a new restaurant that will open soon. The place is called Philippu and it will serve Philippino food. I thought this was a neat concept especially because it's a rarity in Astoria with all the Greek and Italian eateries. Rumor has it that Philippu will be a BYOB joint. Stay tuned for more information about its official opening.

Philippu is located on the corner of 21st Street and 31st Avenue.

  2. Actually I'm not sure. Last time that I drove by there (last week) it wasn't open yet. It looks like it's taking longer than expected. I'll report back when I have some concrete updates. Stay tuned...

I passed by here 2 days ago and it looks like it opened for business but for some reason wasn't open when I went by (Monday, 6/9 6PM). Any other info on this place?

  4. Interesting news. I'm trying to find out their phone number but am running into some problems. I will get to the bottom of this--I'll make it my priority.

My boyfriend and I were super excited when we saw this being built. He lives around the corner and it would be very convenient to have. We really really wanted to like this place. We tried the first time and they had no air conditioner and it was chockingly hot. We went back last weekend to have brunch. No one else was in there except the waitress. We asked for water and two coffees. We were given two bottles of poland spring... very presumptous!! plus tacky and odd in a cute restaurant. We told her tap water please- it took her 5 minutes to do that. Then we had to remind her about the coffee... she seemed completly confused that we wanted coffee... during brunch!! She disapeared into the kitchen and and was in there for 5 minutes.... we left and as we biked away - we could see that she still wasin the kitchen! The food might be excellent, but if there isnt a functiong waitress ... whats the point! We might try them again if we muster the patience.

  6. Sorry to hear that Anon. Sometimes new places take a while to iron out their kinks. I will try it too soon and let you know what I think. I really do wonder how the food is. Hmmm...

Had their bbq chicken today for lunch, pretty good. Still pretty empty, but I enjoyed the lunch. The menu is full or pork dishes and has a few recommended (from the waiter) beef dishes...
