Wave Thai - The Big Kahuna of Flavor

Wave Thai - 21-37 31st Street, Astoria, NY 11105
718.777.6789
N/W Train to Ditmars Blvd (last stop)

I love coming to this restaurant--especially on the fly--and like to introduce it to friends who are not from the neighborhood. Their most common reaction is "I didn't know that Astoria had such great Thai food!" I know that I can depend on Wave Thai for some superb wok dishes like the Healthy Ginger or the Sweet and Sour. But aside from the hearty woks, the other dishes are also spot on. The appetizers are a great way to get things going, especially the Lemongrass Tom Yum Soup—beware, some can find this rather spicy but I love it. The Crispy Spring Rolls are delish and I urge you to try the Curry Puffs—served with refreshing cucumber salad, these puffs are savory and mild. The service at Wave Thai is hit or miss. At times the waitstaff is attentive and kind but can also be a bit careless and forgetful. Random tidbit--check out the restrooms! Even before you enter this area, you'll encounter a beautiful wash basin with a Buddha, dispensing water out of an ornate canister. This is so charming and special that I urge you to wash your hands prior to eating. Overall, Wave Thai is the place to visit when looking for a nice, casual dinner for less but getting more in return--all around.
