One reason why many people in the nabe love BareBurger is not only because of their amazing burger staples, which got them to where they are today - a fabulous sustainable burger micro-chain - but also because they're constantly diversifying their menu. And the way in which they've done it so far has been just genius, adding things like organic beer, inventive shakes, and even some gluten free and vegan options for our friends with special diets.
Here, I wanted to introduce a few items that are new or coming up very soon in the BareBurger Queens locations:
1. Banana foster milkshake (pictured above) - available in Queens locations and coming soon to other BareBurger locales
2. Root beer float - with whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top, it's the perfect Sunday indulgence
3. Vegan carrot cake - available in Queens locations and coming soon to other BareBurger locales
Enjoy these new treats, along with their fabulous, regular menu.

I was so happy to return to Mundo last week after a long dry spell that shan't be repeated. Joined by friends from Always Hungry, it was a fun experience and we tried a couple of new dishes as well as indulged in some old favorites.
While most dishes were new to my friends, the following were new to me:
Stuffed Zucchini & Egyptian Artichokes - We were fascinated by these two vegan plates and even though we ordered a slew of other nibbles, we just had to try these. While they were pretty good, I wouldn't call them standouts. Out of the two, the artichoke was more memorable, stuffed with carrots, peas, shallots and a side of fava beans. I used to not care that the beans weren't fresh, but when Meg brought it up to me last time, it bothered me a bit. So even though there was nothing terribly wrong with these dishes, they were forgettable and I'd recommend going with other things that Mundo is famous for such as their amazing carrot dip or their legendary Red Sonjas.
Turkish Meatballs - Wow oh wow, were we glad that we got these! Maryse did a great job selling them, and even though her description sounded amazing, what arrived in front of us was just a dream come true. They were beauties - piping hot meat patties that were as soft as clouds on the inside and as crispy as chips on the outside. The flavor was deep and hearty - filled not only with meat but also with rice and parsley. Even though each meatball was big, you couldn't just have one - they were seriously addicting.
Lemon-Blueberry Creme Brulee - We were surprised with a dessert from Chef John. It was a sweet gesture (pun intended) and even though we were full, we dug in with gusto. Mmmmm...it was super light. The flavors were fresh and citrusy from the lemon and a bit tart from the blueberries. The top was browned to perfection, creating a golden, slightly crunchy crust. Although we didn't need it, it was a great way to seal our wonderful meal.
Besides the delicious food, we ordered a pitcher of red sangria. We all enjoyed it and especially looked forward to pouring each other glasses from the above pictured bird pitcher. The potent elixir came right out of the bird's mouth and into our glasses. What fun!
Service and Cost:
As always, the service was great and really fast. My only complaint is that because the tables are really small, you're always having to find creative ways to arrange your plates and in the end, wind up playing "musical plates."
Costs are moderate and for a five-course meal that we shared, including a pitcher of sangria the total was about $84. Not bad - especially when the food was so awesome!
