I came to JJ’s after a really long and stressful day at work and needless to say, I was grumpy. But upon entering this place, my mood began to transform immediately and my voice dulled in intensity--it was just so serene and beautiful. My friend and I shared JJ’s famous Edamame Pot Stickers—soy bean dumplings with Wasabi cream sauce. While I couldn’t wait to try this signature dish, I was not overly impressed. True that the exterior of this dumpling was silky- smooth but the inside was gritty and the overall taste too spicy. For the main course, I chose the House Lo Mein with chicken, shrimp and vegetables. The noodles were long shoelaces of yum—tangy in flavor and extremely filling. For dessert, I got fried ice-cream, which had a crispy deep-fried crust and a refreshing green tea filling. The service at JJ’s was great—quick, attentive and full of smiles and little extra touches (we received a shrimp tasting dish from the chef). The prices here are fair and comparable to other Astoria eateries.
